  Pro-TV

One of those pieces created out of necessity as having the television sitting on a stack of magazines just wasn't cutting it anymore, so...

I knew it had to be a space-frame so as to not be visually heavy and look as if it took up a lot of floor space. Similarly, the angled shape gives full support to the tv, gives a continuity of lines and also takes up less floor space than the vast majority of tv stands.

A spaceframe?...well I love the look of the tube-chassis on race cars, very sculptural and functional all at the same time. Given that type of chassis was first seen in professional classes - Pro-Stock, Pro-Modified etc - hence the name of this piece.

After finalising the angles and sizes of the tubes it was time to cut some material. Construction is several metres of 10mm mild steel tube cut and mig welded to give the frame and shelves. All sprayed in off-white splatter paint to give a non-gloss, textured finish rather than 'another' glossy, sleek blah blah blah - you know, all the usual words that get applied at this point to try and entice you to buy something, yawn!

All the wires around the back are hidden by the shaped and folded metal plate which is attached to captive nuts in the frame - this could be thought of as a 'shear' plate as used in some space-frame chassis designs, here it does not play a major structural role, but may be it would if/as and when I make another...if you're interested in one for yourself please contact me ...enquiries@mrbananahands.com
